  • Production of 2in1 electric axles produced in China reached 100,000
  • A highly integrated product with supreme quality and performance wins recognition from customers and the market
  • Long-term commitment in China with continued expansion of local production

Schaeffler today celebrates the production of the 100,000th 2in1 electric axle produced in its Taicang manufacturing base. The company started to produce the product in China in July 2021. “I’m very pleased that we are celebrating the 100,000th 2in1 electric axle one year after the start of production. This is not just an important milestone, but also a new start for us,” said Dr. Chen Xiangbin, President Automotive Technologies Schaeffler Greater China. “It also shows our long-term commitment in China to provide our customers with better products and service by means of continued expansion of local production.”

Schaeffler’s 2in1 electric axle is a highly integrated system solution with the electric motor and gearset combined into one compact unit. With a modular design, it can meet different performance requirements and can be applied to different vehicle platforms. Schaeffler’s 2in1 electric axle is an innovative product in Schaeffler’s electric axle portfolio, which represents Schaerffler’s supreme quality, leading technologies, and strong system expertise.

Electric powertrains are part of the core business of Schaeffler since 2018. Some 2,000 developers are working in this field today. In 2021, the company acquired electromobility projects amounting to EUR 3.2 billion, and the first quarter of 2022 has already seen a series of further orders amounting to EUR 2.0 billion. This amounts to an order intake volume of more than EUR 5 billion for electromobility within 15 months. “Schaeffler is technologically and economically successful with electromobility,” says Matthias Zink, CEO Automotive Technologies of Schaeffler Group. A large share of the order volume is attributable to the electric axle drive business, which is a key element in Schaeffler’s electric mobility strategy.

Schaeffler continues to develop increasingly integrated electric axles for the market. In addition to the 2in1 electric axles, Schaeffler also provides 3in1 electric axles that integrates power electronics and 4in1 electric axles with thermal management system. More functional modules can also be integrated into the unit, including braking, disconnecting, and torque vectoring. This allows a reduction in the development time and the costs for the complex new development of the entire drive. For electric drives, Schaeffler is now providing a whole range of product portfolio from the individual components through to complete system, tailored made to customer’s demands.

Schaeffler’s 2in1 electric axle has received the Golden Steering Wheel (“Goldenes Lenkrad”) award offered by German car magazine “AUTO BILD” and national newspaper “BILD am SONNTAG”. The system has been applied in both domestic and oversea brand vehicle models.
