FIA Formula E in Paris and DTM at the Lausitzring

Formula E and DTM – double motorsport outing for Schaeffler

It’s half-time in Formula E in Paris and the second round of the DTM at the Lausitzring – Schaeffler takes on an eventful motorsport weekend on May 20/21.

Schaeffler is involved with three world-renowned racing series in 2017 with Formula E, the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and the DTM. Two of these series are holding races this weekend.

For its half-time race, Formula E will provide the ‘electro-spirit’ on the 1.925-kilometer Circuit des Invalides in Paris. Also off the track, the French capital is currently undergoing a rethink of engine power. Politicians are taking various measures to prevent an impending collapse of passenger car travel on the Parisian streets: for example, with the opening of a new tram line, the planning of electric tram-buses and a well-developed car-sharing system with 3,000 electric vehicles.

After five of twelve races in the 2016/2017 season, the ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport team finds itself in a good position in the fight for the title. Thanks to his third podium result in a row, the Brazilian Lucas di Grassi retains second place in the drivers’ rankings. His German teammate Daniel Abt ranks ninth overall, and in the teams’ rankings ABT Schaeffler Audi Sport occupies second place.

New race cars, revised regulations, closer fans and as ever a high-caliber grid – the season opener of the 2017 DTM in Hockenheim was a complete success. Likewise, for Mike Rockenfeller, who drove the Schaeffler Audi RS 5 DTM straight to the podium. After seventh place in the second race, the 2013 champion is currently fifth in the drivers’ rankings. At the second stop on the tour of Europe through Germany, Austria, Hungary, Russia and the Netherlands, the DTM takes to the Lausitzring on May 20 and 21. The 3.478-kilometer circuit in Brandenburg is known for its impressive fanfare on the main stand. Mike Rockenfeller holds the DTM lap record with a 1m 18.268s.
